Paul Darling OBE KC- RCA Statement

The RCA is saddened to learn of the death of Paul Darling OBE KC, Chairman of the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB). We extend our sincere condolences to Paul’s wife Camilla, his family and colleagues at the HBLB.

Paul’s love of racing and commitment to role of Chairman of the HBLB were clear for all to see. Paul has long been a colleague of the RCA from his time at the Sports Ground Safety Authority and member of the Levy Board, prior to becoming Chairman. His initial task as Chairman was to steer the organisation through the Covid-19 pandemic, which of course provided invaluable support to racecourses and the wider sport in one of the most challenging periods in our history.

RCA Chief Executive and HBLB Board Member David Armstrong commented: “Paul was a great friend to British racing and a mentor to those he worked with. Paul became Chairman of the HBLB in 2020 and his wise counsel is something I will always hold dearly. His leadership of the HBLB during Covid-19 was imperative as the sport rallied to meet the challenges posed by Covid-19.

“The news of his death is a real shock and I extend my condolences to Paul’s family, colleagues across British racing and particularly his wife, Camilla.”
